Hanging Art on Brick, Tile & Concrete

Hard walls won’t take a nail, but they hold beautifully once you use the right method. Here’s how to hang on brick, concrete and tile.

Brick & concrete — drill and plug

1. 1Use a hammer drill with a masonry bit sized to your wall plug.
2. 2On brick, drilling into the mortar is easier to patch later than the brick face.
3. 3Insert a masonry wall plug, then drive the screw — it holds serious weight.

Tile — go slow, or go no-drill

• Drilling tile: use a tile/diamond bit, tape the spot to stop the bit wandering, and drill slowly with no hammer action until you’re through the glaze.
• No-drill option: heavy-duty adhesive hooks rated for tile/bathroom — great for lightweight framed prints and rentals.
